Below we have mentioned a few key components required to form a structured wiring system. Take a look.
- Horizontal Cabling
These form the cabling between the horizontal cross-connect in the telecommunication closet and the telecommunication outlet in a work area. The wires run horizontally above the ceilings or below the floors of the building but the maximum distance it can run is 90 meters.
- Backbone Cabling
This is also known as vertical cabling. This too runs for a maximum distance of 90 meters and connects the telecommunication rooms, equipment rooms, and entrance facilities. The wire used in this case is a twisted pair of cables.
- Work area
This refers to space where the cable components like telephones and computers are used between end-user telecommunications and other communication outlets.
